Intern Golf Course Superintendent Position Summary:

  • The Intern Superintendent Role at Mt Whitney Golf Club involves maintaining the golf course through tasks such as mowing, trimming, fertilizing, raking and pest management. The position requires working collaboratively with a small team, adapting to changing priorities , building best practices and policies to help the course become sustainable again .

What We're Looking For: 

  • Help build a sustainable agronomy plan including BEST PRACTICES  for a Rural 9-Hole Community Owned Golf Course, help develop a operational budget, capital budget, staff training and course stewardship . Course Improvements can commence all day with limited Daily Play

  • Experience: Previous experience in golf course maintenance a must. A strong work ethic and willingness to teach and learn are essential! 
    Irrigation Experience including Rainbird and Toro a plus. Antiquated Irrigation System consisting of 8 Rainbird Control Boxes and 140 working Sprinklers, 235 total Sprinkler Heads have been identified and are being brought back to use.

  • We have access to good clean water . 

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Able to think on your feet, troubleshoot issues, and handle multiple tasks efficiently with minimal supervision. 

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed . 

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members and contribute to a positive work environment.

    • Be Ready and Reliable: Show up on time for every shift, demonstrating your reliability and commitment to maintaining the Course. 

    • Operate Equipment with Care

    • Maintain and Inspect Equipment 

    • Keep the Course in Playable Condition: Perform various tasks such as mowing, trimming, raking bunkers, laying sod, and filling divots to maintain the Course and surrounding areas in excellent condition. You'll also assist with setting up the Course for daily play. 

    • Adapt to the Weather

    • Follow Safety Rules: Stick to all safety guidelines to keep yourself and your team safe. 

Working Conditions: 

  • Schedule: This is a Full Time, Summer Seasonal Internship Position . Ideally Mid May to End of July ( Flexible)

  • 8-10 weeks. Your work hours include early mornings (6:00 a.m.), weekends, possible evenings  and some holidays. You will manage your schedule. 

  • Environmental Exposure: You'll work outdoors and will be exposed to chemicals, equipment movement, and errant golf balls. Safety is always a priority. 

  • Equipment You'll Use:

  • Greens JD Walk and Toro Triplex mowers, Jacobsen and Bobcat rotary mowers, line trimmers, edges, utility vehicles, backpack blowers, sod cutters, tractors, chainsaws, and various hand tools.  Much of the equipment is older but we are working hard to improve quality of fleet and Hours per yard acre.

  • Mechanical  Skills a Major Plus

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Additional Tasks: Perform Daily maintenance tasks on the golf course and grounds as well as the maintenance facility and clubhouse as assigned and directed. Duties may include, but not limited to, loading and unloading materials, trimming trees, removing cuttings, laying sod, hand raking bunkers, drainage installation and repair, and repairing ball marks and filling divots.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Work with an AWESOME Crew of 2 Green keepers/ Landscaper

Qualifications:

  • 2-year experience in Turf Grass Management Degree. 2 Years or more working on Agronomy Crew operating and maintaining equipment and/or in golf course maintenance or landscaping preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license. Driving record meeting Company safety policies and guidelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate golf course equipment.

  • Demonstrated quality verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.

  • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.

  • A strong work ethic and dedication to delivering exceptional results.

  • A sharp eye for detail and exceptional problem-solving skills.

Classification:

  • Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt. 5 Days a week, Up to 40 Hours a week.  $22.00 -$25.00 an Hour depending on experience.   8 to 10 weeks Spring/Summer
